Chapter 31 — Lower Yangzhou
The next day, Xiao Yixuan decided to bring Situ Xin to Yangzhou with him. At first, she did not want to come along, but once she heard him say, “I will fulfill one of your wishes if you come with me,” a flash of excitement appeared in her eyes; however, as soon as he said, “Except, you are only not allowed to take Yan’er back to the Hundred Flower Sect,” the light in her eyes instantly dimmed.
With a face filled with reluctance, Situ Xin got into the carriage. Since yesterday, the fake skin she was using started cracking, so she decided to return to her original luminous and elegant complexion. Immediately after she had done that, the wangfu exploded like oil in a hot pan. Every single person, who saw her face, could not stop themselves from staring or remarking with a shocked expression, “How could a woman with such other worldly beauty exist in this world,” or “She has to be the mother of the young master. No wonder he has such stunning looks…” As all kinds of discussions followed behind her, Situ Xin felt uncomfortable and regretful of her impulsive actions. She was even more regretful of allowing this loathsome man pull her into the horse carriage, without a single word and not telling her where they were going.
“Xiao Yixuan, where are we going? I’m worried about leaving Yan’er by himself in the wangfu.” Situ Xin said as she lifted the carriage’s curtain.
“I’ve already sent Yan’er to the palace to accompany the imperial consort, early this morning, so you don’t have to worry about him.” Xiao Yixuan replied as he continued to sit on his horse, without turning around.
Situ Xin wrung her lips into a frown, as she muttered, “I’m more worried about the imperial consort.” No one was more understanding of Yan’er’s explosiveness than her. He was even more violent than his father; however, after seeing that both Xiao Yixuan and Ye Ying were riding side by side on the horse, in a carefree way, she suddenly spoke up, “I also want to ride on a horse.”
Xiao Yixuan pulled on the reins, bringing his horse’s footsteps to a stop, and then leaned over to look at Situ Xin, who had already climbed out of the carriage. He then grabbed her small hand, which was extended towards him, and pulled her towards him, embracing Situ Xin at her waist. “Xin’er, how come you never get fat, despite eating so much?” Xiao Yixuan asked curiously, as he took in the Hundred Flower fragrance her body emitted.
As Situ Xin turned her face, she rolled her eyes and replied back, “It’s none of your business. Why don’t tell me where in the world are we going, instead?”
“The Gathering of Heroes at Yangzhou.”
“Did you want to become the head of the league?” She asked as if she had just discovered the Zhanlu Sword that hung on Xiao Yixuan’s waist.
“That’s not it. It just so happened to be that the current head of the Wulin League, Song Zi Miao, invited me to attend a ritual and to help him filter out the candidates for the next alliance head.” He replied with a clear and simple answer to Situ Xin’s question.
Song Zi Miao? Shixiong? Situ Xin’s face went dark as she thought about these past couple of years, where she had not been paying attention to other worldly matters. Who would have known that her father’s favorite disciple, Song Zi Miao, had become the alliance head of the Wulin community.
“Xin’er, save me!” Suddenly, Huo Yan appeared behind them, with a face full of panic, in a mad dash, as if there was some type of terrifying demon or ghost chasing behind him.
Situ Xin narrowed her eyes at Huo Yan, who was panting for air, before redirecting her gaze at Bai Ying, who was following closely behind him. “The two of you..?”
“There is no relation between the two of us.”
“I am his fiancée.”
Even though they both spoke nearly at the same time, the meanings in their words were completely different. “Where are you guys heading to?” Situ Xin asked curiously, as she stared at the two of them. It appeared as if Huo Yan was terrified of this woman called Bai Ying.
Huo Yan hid behind Situ Xin and Xiao Yixuan, before he yelled out, “Wherever you guys go, I will follow. Also, I am going on a different path than that woman.”
As Bai Ying nodded towards Stu Xin and Xiao Yixuan, she said, “Miss Xin’er really is a nation toppling beauty. It seems like the rumors among the people were true.”
What a sharp woman she is, to actually be able to see through her mediocre appearance disguise and see her true face. Since she knew about her true identity, Situ Xin could not help but be fond of this intelligent woman. “Miss Bai truly is intelligent and graceful. Xin’er admires you very much.”
“Miss and Wangye are both heading towards the Gathering of Heros at Yangzhou. Is it possible for Bai Ying to follow the two of you?” She asked as she slightly nodded her head.
“Of course.” Situ Xin and Xiao Yixuan both nodded at the same time, but this action only incited a mournful wailing sound from Huo Yan.
In Japanese, it can also be known as Senpai. In Chinese, it means a senior male fellow student or apprentice.
