Chapter 30 — This Male Lead Is a Bit Sick (30)

The supermarket was a mess; you could even spot a few zombie corpses in the aisles. The store had been mostly emptied out, with a few abandoned products strewn across the floor.

Qin Yifeng was on high alert for any movement as he quickly scanned under the shelves and around them to find what they needed. When he noticed that Shen Mubai was not by him, his heart stopped.

He found her on his left a few feet away. Qin Yifeng walked over to her with some annoyance. But the words left him when he noticed what she had in her hands.

“Medical supplies!” He said with astonishment. This was the apocalypse—aside from food and water, medical supplies were the most important resource. Although the physical strength of an ability user was stronger than the average person, they could still get injured or sick. Without these supplies, they could lose their life.

Shen Mubai: “…Weren’t you about to yell at me?”

Qin Yifeng felt a bit guilty. “I was just worried you were lost…”

Shen Mubai said angrily to the system, “Does he think I’m a three-year-old child?”

System: “No, he thinks you’re a thirteen-year-old.”

Shen Mubai: “…”

During their little conversation, a strange noise came from the aisle behind them.

Qin Yifeng’s face became serious and put a finger over his mouth to shush Shen Mubai.

The two silently and slowly approached.

The tall shelves were blocking their view, so Qin Yifeng signaled to Shen Mubai to stay put while he scouted the situation. It was a precaution he had to take to make sure she would not act rashly.

The rustling sound got louder and more prominent. It…it sounded like chewing. When Qin Yifeng looked around the shelf, he clamped his hands over his mouth to stop himself from screaming.

A zombie was hunched over on the ground, devouring the dead human before it. The crunching of bones and flesh echoed down the aisle.  The intestines had spilled out and were scooped up into the deformed hands of the zombie. By the clothes of the dead human, it was a man; his face had been ripped off, presumably eaten by the zombie hovering over him. The strong smell of blood and rot mixed into the air.

Taking advantage of the preoccupied zombie, Qin Yifeng quickly left the scene and made his way back to Shen Mubai. “I knew there was something wrong with this place…the market’s too quiet.”

Shen Mubai said, “But, didn’t we just find the zombie?”

Qin Yifeng had followed Shen Changqing to many places, so he naturally knew better that she did. “We didn’t find any zombies on the way to the market, we saw no zombies following us either… There should be a bloody trail following the zombie we just saw.” As he explained, Qin Yifeng scanned any places they had missed.

“The zombie came from outside.” Shen Mubai said.

Qin Yifeng looked at her and smiled. “You should know the current situation of D City by now. Let’s not waste time. We need to see what the situation outside is right now.”

They found an isolated spot in the market that gave them a perfect view outside. When they saw what awaited them, they were beyond shocked.

Fear slowly crept in as Qin Yifeng saw the increasing number of undead outside.

Shen Mubai saw the zombies gathering around their car and could see that the windows were starting to crack.

She called out to the system in panic.

Just when the system thought she was finally scared, Shen Mubai uttered out this sentence:

“The snacks are still in the car!”

She looked helplessly at the scene outside and said sadly, “I even had spicy chicken feet.”

System: “…” What could it even say?
